Venetian Port
Castello del Molo (Castello del Molo), Rocca a Mare (Rocca a Mare), Koules (as it was called during the Ottoman period), are the names given to the Sea Fortress that dominates the entrance to the Venetian harbour.
The Fortress was built by the Venetians, during the first years of their rule in Chandax, before the construction of the new Venetian fortification, in order to protect the jetty and the port, which was of great strategic and commercial importance. It took its final form in the period 1523-1540, replacing earlier structures destroyed by earthquakes and other causes.
