Archaeological Museum of Heraklion

Archaeological Museum of Heraklion

It is one of the largest and most important museums in Greece and one of the most important in Europe.

The collections of the Archaeological Museum of Heraklion include unique works of Cretan art, found in excavations in the central and eastern part of the island, which cover a chronological period of about 7000 years, from the Neolithic (7000 BC) to the Roman period (3rd century AD). Most of the artefacts date back to prehistoric times and the so-called Minoan period, named after the mythical king of the island, Minos.
